NATIONAL CADET CORPS (N.C.C)

Army Wing

The N.C.C in Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja College. Bhanjanagar has one Infantry Company (boys & girls) under 2 (O) Bn.N.C.C:, Berhampur.
Enrolment
Enrolment in N.C.C. is done in July every year. It is open to all students .of +3 classes and exceptionally talented students of +2 2nd year classes, and if they are found physically fit by competent medical officer. Enrollment forms can be had from N.C.C. office or N.C.C. officer, as and when notified.
Training
The training is spread over 120 periods a year from August to February. Infantry training consists of Foot Drill, Weapon Training, Field Craft, Map Reading. Organisation of Armed Force, Civil Defence, First Aid, Military History and Geography. Social service such as Tree plantation, Adoption of a village for its all round development, Blood donation and Literacy Drive are also taken up by cadets.
Camps
An N.C.C. Cadet has to attend at least one camp in each training year to be eligible to appear Certificate Examination. The camp may be Annual Training Camp, (inside Orissa), or Basic Leadership Camp, Advance Leadership Camp, Army Attachment Camp, All India Summer Training Camp, Thal Sena Camp and Republic day Camp (all outside Orissa), Special Adventure Camps such as Trekking Camps, Para-sailing Camp, Cycle expedition, Moped expedition and Rock climbing camp are also held every year .
Advantage of N.C.C. Training
N.C.C. cadets can appear at the Certificate 'B' Examination in the 2nd year of training and 'C' Examination at the end of 3rd year of training.
N.C.C. Certificate holders are given extra percentage of marks during admission into medical/engineering/veterinary/agriculture in the state. Cadets with 'C' Certificates have reserved quotas in the following services.
1. Armed Forces
2. State Police
3. State/Central Excise
4. C.R.P .F .
5. Indo Tibetian Boarder police
6. Boarder Security Force
7. State/Central Forest Deptts.
8. Industrial Security Forces etc.
Other information regarding N.C.C. can be had from the N.C.C Office or from the N.C.C. Officer .
 


NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S.)

The National Service Scheme has been introduced in this college from the session 1971-1972 All the students of the college are eligible to join as N.S.S. volunteers.
Objectives of NSS
The overall objectives of NSS is to enrich the academic experience of the students. This can be realised by providing the students different opportunities like.
a) To understand through direct experience of the realities of social life.
b) To realise one's responsibility to the community
c) To develop a spirit of fellow feeling and service to the needy.
d) To inculcate in the students the value of citizenship and democratic leadership
e) To acquire skill, insight & understanding in working with people
f ) To understand the value of constructive social action.
g) To understand the dignity of labour.
h) To inculcate in the students a sense of national unity. Incentives to students.
With regard to the measures necessary to encourage wider participation, the following incentives are given.
1. Allowance for conveyance, food, refreshment. etc.
2. Award of certificates and medals in recognition to distinguished services at College, State and national level.
3. Proper publicity to the work
4. Supply of uniform and blazers
5. Preference in job.
6. Opportunity to participate in national and regional service of development.

Work
A student who joins the NSS shall have to put to 120 hours of field work out of which 70 hours of field work will be done in the camp in prescribed days.
